This is a mask of Quetzalcoatl, the Aztec god (and also most of Meso-Ameria) of creation.

Quetzalcoatl was often depicted as a feathered serpent, which is also the direct translation of the name, and was believed to have created the current world and its inhabitants after the previous fourth world had ended.

Along with being a creation deity, Quetzalcoatl was also associated with the sky, wind, the arts and knowledge.

Made from 8oz tooling leather, hand tooled, then painted with acrylic paints. This mask is available now at my Etsy Shop: [link]

This was a very fun mask to design and I hope someone buys it to wear at a good party like you said :) :)

This character's name is a mess to pronounce. I only recently found out it's pronounced "Kay-tsal-kut-luh"

Tell me about it! While doing some research though, I came across one of his other titles, Tlahuizcalpantecuhtli... talk about an awesome Scrabble word! :D

Wonderful. Are you planning to do more of the Aztec deities?

Thanks! I am thinking about doing Tezcatlipoca next: a jaguar face with a mirror somehow integrated into his crown :)

Yes, you should! You could look into using obsidian for a smoking mirror.
